Providing opportunities for direct experience through exploration and discovery encourages creative thinking and individual expression. This way, students begin to acquire a more comprehensive understanding of any given subject. Teachers guide students through their speech by helping them focus and define their ideas and perceptions. Students are given the freedom to think for themselves, whereby developing the mental flexibility required for reasoning and problem solving. Thinking and learning are seen as a fluid process, which helps students become more effective and self-reliant. This helps them develop a sense of responsibility, respect and self-worth. |

Language Arts
The purpose of the English Language Arts curriculum is to teach students the language abilities they need to communicate effectively as individuals and as members of society. Students at all grade levels develop skills in the three language areas: oral language, written language, and the use of language in media/technology. All grade levels study some common content: language of the subject (plot, theme, setting, etc.); language conventions (sentence structure, mechanics, spelling and punctuation, etc.); and different genre (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama). The culmination of our program results in the ability to create personal magazines, short stories, formal written essays, construction of an MLA research paper, and the tools to respond to literature.
Mathematics
Our Mathematics program is designed to prepare each student for the challenges and demands of the future helping to develop invaluable tools for life long critical thinking and problem solving success. Our program is built around a developmentally appropriate concept progression that empowers students by building and sustaining their natural interest in Math. The curriculum accommodates the diverse learning styles of every student.
Social Studies
Our Social Studies curriculum is the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote educated citizenship. All students learn best through experience regardless of their age or ability. Understanding and retention of key concepts increase when students are active participants in the learning process. Each grade level participates in whole-class simulations experiencing social studies through role-playing, cooperative groups, debates, and individual projects. Students become part of the historical perspective and learn to analyze and critique mistakes that may prove helpful to future generations.
Science
Science is the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for scientific decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity. Our program hopes to find or determine answers to questions derived from everyday experiences. Our goal is to explain, experiment, analyze, and draw conclusions based on the scientific method. The annual Science Fair allows the student to experience an individual spirit of inquiry and make a personal statement about the world and his/her relationship to it.
Foreign Language
Foreign Language study benefits all students. The study of another language leads to higher scores on standardized tests, greater cognitive development in the areas of mental flexibility, creativity, divergent thinking and higher-order thinking skills, a broader English vocabulary, a better understanding of one’s own language and culture, and enhanced career opportunities. Spanish instruction begins in Kindergarten.
Computer Education
Our technology program beginning in Kindergarten identifies the essential knowledge and skills that all students need to be active, lifelong learners in a technology intensive environment in the computer classroom. The curriculum is designed to provide continuous learning in the changing technological field. To become technologically proficient, students must develop the skills over time, through integrated activities used daily in the classroom, rather than through one specific course.
The Arts
Art education benefits both the student and society. Involving the “whole child” in the arts gradually teaches many types of literacy while developing intuition, sensitivity, reasoning, imagination, and dexterity. Our Art education program helps students perceive and think in new ways on a daily basis. Music, Art, and Drama are evident throughout our curriculum. Students perform annually in our school productions and concerts.
Physical Education
Healthful living is a combination of health education and physical education. Our students experience a sequential educational program that will involve learning a variety of skills that enhance a person’s quality of life. We emphasize coordination skills, rules of fair play, and good sportsmanship. The highlight of our program is a “Sports Night” involving the entire school in team dance, gymnastic, and cheerleading competitions, combined and integrated with our Art program in the student construction of two twelve foot team murals.
